a real mom

Becoming a mom has become one of the routine in my life since Khye was born. However, the feeling of becoming a REAL mom hits me lately.

Firstly, when i was confirmed pregnant with my second baby. Crazy me, but it's sad to think that khye is not going to get 100% attention from me anymore and i'm going to miss his growing up before my eyes. We are closer to each other more now that khye started to ignore and refuse his dad. He even wants me to clean his butt and wear the diaper on him. Every night, khye will glue to me until he goes to sleep.

Secondly, we have to look for a suitable nursery for khye before the arrival of the second one. One weekend, we went to survey a few nurseries and after looking at the number of kids in the nurseries, i started to worry about khye. He is going to be alone with so many kids. He is going to be force to do things in a more strictly manner. Are the teachers going to patient enough with him? Are the teachers going to hit him? Will the teachers hide the truth from me when khye slips and falls in the toilet? What if i find bruises on khye's body? What if khye doesn't want to sleep and the teachers will force the cough syrup down his throat? What if khye is being bullied by the bigger sized kids but the teachers will tell me it's a common? What if, what if, what if....these are the questions that run thru my mind the whole week after the survey. Suddenly, i'm missing khye.

Lastly...Khye has not been feeling well since last Monday. And i failed to detect that as a mom. He was fussy, cranky and a crying baby at night. Even while sleeping, he would want to hold my fingers to make sure i'm there. Until Weds night, he was down with fever, followed by throat inflammation then cough. On Saturday night, i was thinking, what food can he take on Sunday. Usually, sunday is a rest day for me, which means no activities in the kitchen. We would buy breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lately, i came to realise that i should cook on everyday sunday, to ensure khye eats well, esp when he dun take veggies at all during weekdays. Yesterday, i cooked kuey teow soup for lunch and spaghetti for dinner. Hubby had to finish the awful kuey teow soup from lunch. Amazingly, khye finished his lunch & dinner without protest....am so pleased. I can tell the whole world, khye likes my cooking in the end!!!

nap time

We have a portable baby cradle set in our house which is kept at a hidden corner right in front of the storeroom. Each time it's time for Khye to sleep, we just need to pull it out and put it under the fan next to the dining table. Khye does not like it when we do that as it'll indicate that it's his bedtime already. Usually, what he will do is try to run away or lying down on the floor and pretending to cry. He'll never win at any attempt.

Yesterday, hubby's fren came for a visit. Both of them were talking at the dining table while khye & i played together. An hour passed and the fren was still not ready to go home. It's almost time for khye's afternoon nap. Not wanting to be impolite, i didn't say anything and left khye to play with his toys while i got ready some food for lunch in the kitchen.

Surprisingly, khye followed me, but not into the kitchen. He went to drag his cradle set, like how we always do and placed it next to the fren's chair. Khye hardly does that unless he's extremely tired or sleepy. Then only the fren got the message and finally left the house.

Khye slept peacefully from 1pm to almost 4pm. Khye's mum too.

trip to durian farm

Brought to you by Khye...

One fine morning, instead of dressing me up into TT shirt, Papa-yoh dressed me up in another set of pyjamas. I was thinking has he gone senile? Three of us got into the car and Papa-yoh called his friend to informed that we're on the way. Yay, we're not going to TT this weekend. It was a long journey to this place. While Papa-yoh was driving, i went crazy with mama at the passenger seat behind. To be exact, i made mama crazy by being a monkey in the car. Finally, after about an hour or less, we reached a dead-end in a jungle. Papa-yoh parked the car by the hill side. Mama told Papa-yoh that if i were to be naughty again, she would throw me down the hill. I took that seriously and stood very close to them all the time. Papa-yoh was carrying me while mama was carrying a camera bag, my bag & an umbrella. She didn't look happy though. While on the way up the so called short hike, mama reluctantly took a pic of me and Papa-yoh.
at the beginning of our 25mins walk, hubby still could smile

After about 25mins, we finally reached the durian farm. I was sweating a lot too even though i didn't have to walk. I bet Papa-yoh must have transferred his sweat to my pyjamas. There were a lot of mosquitoes and that time i knew why i was dressed in pyjamas. But i wonder why Papa-yoh & mama did not do the same. But after thinking it over, they must be the world greatest parents, to sacrifice their body & blood to protect me from the fierce mosquitoes. I was so touched.

Later, Papa-yoh left me & mama to bring back some fruits. It reminded me of the story of Tarzan & Jane. Tarzan would go and brings back fruits for Jane (& Tarzan junior). While waiting for Papa-yoh to come back, i played with a few purple fruits which i've not seen before. Mama called them mangosteens.
undecided
I was fascinated by these fruits but i dun like red hairy fruits called rambutans.
IMG_0896
After about 15mins, i was bored and i told mama i wanted to look for Papa-yoh. She kept pulling me back to where she was standing. Mama didn't even allow me to peep at her camera.
trying to snatch the camera from my hand
There was a tug of war and i fell down on my buttock. Mama screamed, not becos i was hurt, it's becos she had to wash the dirt from my white pyjamas now.
notice the dirt on his pants?
Soon, Papa-yoh came back with a big bunch of red....hairy fruits and smiling happily. Mama thought he was going to bring back lots of "red prawns" (ang heh durian). Papa-yoh disappeared again to bring back more fruits. I was hungry, sweaty & bored. Mama was always pulling me whenever i tried to walk off. I even threaten to pull down her bag from the tree. But she ignored me.
making my bag into his punching bag
Finally, i lost my temper and started to cry. Mama panicked and i was dissatisfied with a bottle of milk. Finally, after much hassle, i dozed off until the rest came back. We finally made it to ground at 2pm+.

Papa-yoh told mama that next year, i will have to hike up the hill myself. I was very excited and can't wait for next year =) Mama just kept quiet.

The two men in my life. Don't be fooled by their gentleman/innocent look.

Khye is a copycat now and hubby is forever teaching him silly acts like this. Look at how khye was observing his papa-yoh's action so attentively.
(khye loves to call hubby papa-yoh and we have no idea why).

Both of them seemed to be enjoying themselves so much, until they started making out right in front of me!! Ya Allah....

daily routine

Let me share our almost fixed routine everyday.
(inspired by Karen Cheng).

6.50am Alarm goes off and hubby bathes & i prepare breakfast
7.00am My turn to bathe while hubby dressed up and carry khye downstairs.
7.30am Leave house to work.
8-5.45pm Slaves at work
6.45pm Reached home with packed dinner.
7.15pm Fetch khye from in-laws'.
8.15pm Send khye to sleep - lights off, air-cond on.
9.00pm Get ready khye's feeding things & relax in front of Astro.
10.30pm Bed-time for both of us.

Getting khye to sleep everyday is an ordeal. He does not sleep easily unless he is REALLY tired which does not happen very often. Hubby has to get him ready by wiping him clean and changing into his pyjamas. Sometimes, it goes very smoothly. Most of the time, he will be screaming like he's being abuse or something. But before changing him into his pyjamas, i have to get ready his bottle of milk and setup his baby cradle in the living room, in front of the air-cond. Lights & tv must be 100% off with full speed fan & moderate air-cond temp. If you miss any of these, the whole house will turn into a mad house almost instantly. The IKEA chair is to block him from the tv when we on it after he goes to sleep.
khye's cradle

After about 20-30mins of irritating baby cradle music & non-stop tapping, we will on the porch light to see whether he is still awake or not. No noise from the cradle does not mean that he is already asleep. At times, we will find him staring back at us after 30mins. If that happens, we have to switch off the light and start all over again.

If he is confirmed sleeping then we can safely switch on the dining room lights and tv.
khye in cradle

When it's our bed time, hubby has to slowly lift him up from the baby cradle before putting him into his baby cot. Normally, he will just open his eyes for a while and continue with his sleep. If he protests, a bottle of milk will do to calm him down.

how we spent our last weekend

It was an impromptu trip to IKEA.

Hubby woke me up at 5.30am after he bathed and while i was getting ready, he packed everything in the car. We gave khye his milk while carrying him into the car, not wanting to wake him up so early. After all, i needed some sleep before attending to the little rascal in the car. We start our journey at 6.10am. Unfortunately, khye woke up around 7.30am and my nightmare started. First, he demanded for milk which he didn't want to finish after that. He got bored playing toys that i purposely brought along. I read nursery rhymes to him using a book full of pics. He was only interested in Humpty Dumpty and navigating my fingers to point everywhere on the book. Then he got bored of the book and started to disturb his papa, pinching hubby's face, pulling his shirt & wanted to become co-driver by climbing into front passenger seat. Not only that, he tried to test hubby's car performance by attempting to pull the hand brake / gear stick. All happened within 2hours from the time he woke up. It was a MAJOR mistake not training him to sit in car seat when he was younger, everything is too late now. He refused to be tied using seat belt, dun want to be held by anybody. Nobody else to be blamed except ourselves.

Lucky thing, we reached KL at 10am before detoured to a nearby car repair shop for tyre checking. I remember our first trip to IKEA. It was a peaceful trip though i was 5mths preg and we spent about 6hours or more there. With khye this time, it was a hectic trip with him acting like "rusa masuk kampung". He didn't want to be seated in the shopping trolley. And i forgot that IKEA does not have a big trolley like Tesco (we only realised that IKEA does have such trolley at the ground floor after all the hassle). I forced him to stay in the trolley for a while by feeding him cereals & biscuits. But it only worked for like 15mins before he tried to escape from the trolley again. In the end, hubby had to carry him all the way. He tried to lure hubby to go closer to things on the shelves by shouting "HUA! HUA!" As if we would fall into his trap. After failing with a few attempts, he threw tantrum and wanting to walk on the floor by himself. So we put him down in one of the baby cots where he LOVES so much. as if he has not seen any baby cot before

Even pretend to be sleeping on the mattress some more.

pretending to sleep

Dun worry, i've already covered his face and hands with dettol sanitizer. He had lots of fun playing in the baby cot, as if he had never seen one. When it was time to move to the next section, he refused to get out from the baby cot. This is something new. Usually he would beg us to take him out from his own baby cot. Isn't he a good actor? There was a bit of drama when we dragged him out of the baby cot and it stopped when we reached kids' corner. He went mad and dashed for the toys, playing like there's no tomorrow.

toys

My sis lends khye an exact same toy which he didn't bother to touch at my mum's place but he went crazy when he saw it at IKEA. Another toy he was particularly attracted to was a toy with a roller and a handle for him to pull and push while walking, creating irritating noise. I protested when hubby wanted to get him that toy. Khye never like a toy for more than 5mins. After all, that toy was not cheap too. Hubby bought it in the end anyway.

So it was time to eat and another drama followed. Khye was playing happily with the push & pull toy and did not want to let hubby guide him. He just went wherever he likes. Since he is so minute, a lot of bigger size kids wanted to snatch that toy from him, without knowing hubby and i was around guarding khye like eagles. IKEA was crowded at that time. Not wanting to create any problem, i kept the toy while hubby carried him. Khye suddenly turned so aggressive, like got possessed like that. He turned, squirmed, screamed, cried, shouted and all the verbs you could think of, trying to get back on the floor. Hubby gave up and put him back on the floor. But his body went limp and he refused to get up from the floor. No choice, hubby had to grab him up again and the whole drama repeated. Mind you, it was lunch time and khye has high pitch voice. Hubby tried to distract him by moving into kid's corner with TV while i went to line up for food. From the queue, i could still hear khye screaming on top of his voice. The queue was very long and i had to wait for quite a while before returned to find them. There was no vacant table and khye was crying like mad and i was so frustrated!! When we finally settled down on a table, i had to carry khye away for his feeding while hubby cooled down at the table. He was about to lose his temper. Khye finally calmed down, and dozed off before finishing his milk. PEACE AT LAST!! He didn't wake up even when someone knocked into his car that tired. This little rascal has been naughty from 7.30am to 1pm.

naughty khye, sleeping after throwing a bit tantrum

At least we got about 30mins of lunch with khye sleeping next to my chair. Anyway, he woke up when we lifted him up from the chair. But this time, his mood was back to normal, not more kena possessed. He didn't make a fuss when we threw him into the big trolley and moved on with our shopping. On and off, we had to obey to his instruction by throwing unbreakable things he wanted from the shelves (e.g spoons, bowls). It was a win-win situation, he got to play masak-masak in the trolley while we could look at the things we wanted.

'new
We left ikea around 3pm and proceeded to the Curve before heading home.

Khye didn't sleep at all until we reached Ipoh for Chicken & Bean sprouts for dinner. He only went to sleep when we entered the highway to get back to Bworth. Well, one good thing was, he didn't wake up thru out that night until the next morning. Neither did both of us.

pop quiz

Question :
What happened to Khye eyes?

A) Lack of sleep.
B) Child abuse case, his mum punched him near the eyes.
C) Going for audition - Rambo wannabe or maybe Zorro.

.

Answer:
We didn't abuse him!!! He fell down twice and knocked himself twice on the same spot.

1st fall: He was asked to keep his toys as we were going out for dinner. Manatau, his stepped on cloth clippers, tumbled and knocked his head on the floor. Almost immediately, you could see a bump on his head.
2nd fall: Two days after the 1st fall, while he was happily playing with his playmate, his playmate accidentally pushed him. Off he went and kissed the floor. This time, the swell was almost the size of 1/2 a ping pong ball. We took him to the nearest clinic and received good scolding from the doc.

We received staring from strangers in Tesco. And even at Tumble Tots, the parents whom had never talked to us asked us what happened to Khye :P

khye's hiding place

Last Sunday, both hubby and i almost ransacked whole house to find his bunch of house keys. At first, hubby tot i was the one who took the keys. When i told him i haven't seen his keys, he went to search his car and even the place where we put our keys. Couldn't find them anywhere.

Then, it was my turn to ransack the whole. I searched in all possible places - toilet, kitchen cabinets, fridge, freezer, washing machine, khye's cupboard, my drawers, but failed to find the keys.

Hubby was getting restless and he went for another round of checking and after a few mins, he came back into the room with the keys. Khye was the culprit. So the next day, hubby put the keys back at the same place where he found them and asked khye "Khye, where are the keys? Please give me the keys." See where khye hid them and the strange thing was he remembered where he put them.....

hair cut

We took khye for his second hair cut after pestering from both grandparents. The first haircut costed RM2, and made him look like a kampong boy. It's not consider very cheap too, looking at the amount of hair khye has.

About 2-3months later, which was last Saturday, hubby wanted to have a haircut so three of us went together to the salon. Hubby was thinking of getting the hairdresser to cut his hair and conveniently thought that khye's will be free. How silly & dumb :P She was going to charge RM5 for khye's haircut, which i said no.

After hubby's haircut, we went to the neareset mamak barber, RM3. Surprisingly, khye was behaving quite well. I put him on the chair and for the first time, someone really cut his hair instead of just shaving. Through out the entire session, he was holding a cassette in his hands so hard but still managed to give us a smile while hubby was taking his pics. He was feeling ticklish all the way until he could hold on to his tears anymore, just in time for the final snip. Another silly one.

he looks cute, isn't he? :D

behaving so well, notice the cassette?

sight

Hub & i went to Kek Lok Si temple to try out his new cam during CNY. While on the way up to the pagoda, we saw a few beggars sitting begging by the pavement. One particular family drew my attention. A young indian mother with 4 kids sitting on cardboard. The youngest son was almost the same age as Khye, tiny, sleeping peacefully on the cardboard. It was a disturbing sight for me and i was thinking of it whole night and even now. The image still stuck to my mind. Before i had khye, i only felt sorry for these people. Now, i really feel something. I have no idea why but each time i encounter beggars with small kids, it will make me think of how lucky khye is. Or i will imagine my khye is the one sleeping on the cardboard. Ouch, it's a heartbreaking sight.

chubby

Khye is growing fatter & chubby-ier each day, and i can't resist biting his arms and cheeks. Yesterday, he learnt a new trick. He was holding his toys in both hands while trying to stand on by clinging on the sofa. How to stand lar? I grabbed his armpits right on time before he fell backwards. And guess what, he thought it was so funny that he repeated the action – on purpose. Stood up, looked at me, smiled then let go of his hands to see whether I’d catch him in time or not. Smiling so happily, until i had to distract him from the sofa. His crawling speed has increased over the weekend. Now you see him in the living room, the next moment, you will find him crawling towards the stairs or towards our front door.
Anybody care to babysit him for me during the plant shutdown? So cute wor......

solid food

This was written 2 months ago and i just found it somewhere.
July 28
Yesterday was our 3rd attempt in feeding Khye solid food and it went so smoothly, unbelievable.
Our 1st & 2nd attempt was disasterous. We decided to start him on solid food last week, when he was in week 24. Happily, i mixed the rice cereal with some milk. It turned out more milk than rice cereal and i thought the mixture was just nice for baby. Dun want him to choke. Our first mistake was to wiped him clean BEFORE feeding him. As soon as i brought the mouth to his mouth and his tongue tasted it, the drama started. He wailed, cried, spit, struggled, kicked and did whatever he could to break free from hubby's arm, as if we're trying to force him drink vinegar. Khye is strong physically & vocally. And i thought all babies like to munch. Hubby and i was worried to see him acted in such way, but didn't want to give up, i forced another mouthful of cereal into his mouth. The drama continued.

I was taken back by his rejection. He used to watch us eat and got so excited and at times will mimic our munching action with sound "mam mam mam mam mam".

We tried our luck for the 3rd time. Suprisingly, no hassle and no more rejection. This time, he was getting impatient waiting for the spoon to reach his mouth. The moment i took the spoon out from his mouth, he will be prostesting non-stop. I have to increase my speed. In the end, we have a satisfied baby & 2 tired adults.

My milk storage after i started him on solid food, last month. I forgot to take the pic of my fridge today.
